My father lived at Commonwealth Grand Rapids for 2 ½ years, and what we experienced was deeply disappointing. While a few caregivers truly loved him and showed compassion, the system itself is broken. We witnessed neglect, poor food, preventable issues, misleading advertising and even failures in his final hours, leaving him without the care and dignity he deserved. After his death, no administrator reached out, and his record was marked as “moved out” a last jab that reduced him to nothing more than a number. Families deserve better than a business that puts profit over people.

My friends room is usually dirty when I go to visit and I find this so very discouraging. She always kept a clean and tidy house and now crumbs under the chair and Kleenex pieces all over the floor. The bed is often unmade and things are on the guest chair that I have to move. I often find her anxious for help with using restroom or most often waiting on medication. She has lost a lot of weight since moving here. She has friends who bring her food but some of the kitchen help won’t open a can with the can opener or add cottage cheese to her salmon. They say the outside food will contaminate with their food—like that food wasn’t brought in from somewhere! There are a couple people there that are helpful but many are just drawing a paycheck. Mobile phones shouldn’t be allowed while working! Maybe break time but not work time.
