I am very disappointed with an experience I had at Arbor Terrace Citrus Park. During a recent visit, I personally witnessed a line cook named Maddy screaming at a young server so aggressively that he was nearly in tears. It was shocking and upsetting to see this happen in front of others. After this, multiple caregivers quietly shared with me that this type of behavior is not unusual from her — that she often speaks to colleagues in a condescending, threatening, and unprofessional manner. Many staff members are apparently afraid to speak up about it, which says a lot about how toxic the situation feels. This is especially upsetting because my family pays a lot of money for my grandfather to live here. The caregivers and servers are excellent — they treat residents with kindness and respect, and I have so much appreciation for them. They deserve to work in an environment free of intimidation and verbal abuse. It is unacceptable for one person’s behavior to overshadow the hard work of an otherwise wonderful team. I hope management takes this seriously, because residents and their families should feel confident that staff are being treated respectfully and professionally at all times.

There have been many great parts of being at Arbor Terrace for the past nine months. Let me highlight some of the all star players and moments. The front desk team is led by Tammy. I’m not sure if she went to Hillsborough High School like my kids did and like the actual Dwight Gooden, but she is indeed a “Tampa Dwight Gooden”, a team leader who gets residents to win “the World Series” of package delivery, solving problems of any/all areas of life, answering every question, and knowing who to ask to get something done quickly. Her colleagues help us at all hours: Catherine, Celia/Cece, Adrienne, Patricia, Susan, and Golda. They also help family members who have questions. Truly all stars and truly helpful! The other part of living a good life here is never having to cook (though the kitchens in the Independent Living apartments like I have are large and modern). The food is excellent and the desserts are difficult to resist. Even better than the food is the team that puts it together, from the cooks to the servers to the dishwashers to maitre d Dani helping us arrange seating and get orders to go when we aren’t feeling well. The humor, kindness, thoughtfulness, and efficiency of the restaurant team is a huge part of the daily routines and joys here. Thanks to Dani, Mathew, Daniel, Garnnet, Pamela, Juan, Sheila, Tom, Liam, Zoey, Grace L, Grace S, Benjamin, Vladimir, Sely, Reese, Isabel, Isabella, Logan, Eilidh, Izzy, Sophie, Maddox, Katelyn, Ali, Maria, Michelle, Holden, Lerma, Savanna, Mia, and Kevin. One neat thing is that staff sometimes blend in stories and recipes related to where they are from, through a thematic meal, holiday, or the travel club. That creativity was unexpected and of course since they really knew their home town food it was delicious and fun to try something that had a story behind it. Thanks to all the other staff and departments of Arbor Terrace, I feel lucky to have found it.

Arbor Terrace is a superior senior living community due to their commitment to providing excellent service to their residents. They staff is amazing - warm, hospitable, readily accessible and gracious. I love that they are providing on site college level educational programming with OLLI from the University of South Florida.
