Couldn’t have found a better place for my parents!… the staff is kind and attentive, they treat the folks here like family and genuinely care for the folks in their care. The schedule is packed with activities: guest musicians, field trips to fun places and fun activities in the facility, and just to name a few. Speaking of which, they are having a “Shortest parade” in the parking lot this week! The nursing staff takes care to attend to the needs of the residents, and since they specifically cater to memory care they can focus on engaging with the folks in caring and kind ways appropriate to their condition. We looked at a lot of places for my parents; once we discovered Boden the search was over!

Found my dad soiled in urine when I went to visit. He fell out of his bed. Then was sent to st. Johns across the street. Between St.Johns and this place he developed horrid bedsores that no one adressed and just hid with a bandage. Hospice discovered these wounds. Same clothes for several days without changing. Care got better after hospice was involved and and I made complaints to the director. I changed my dad's briefs myself when my family was paying thousands of dollars for you guys to take care of him. I regret sending him there at the end of his life. He kept asking to go home I wish I would have listened to him.

Memory Improvement Games for Seniors Keeping your mind active is essential for healthy aging. Research consistently shows that regular mental exercise benefits aging brains. Memory games challenge different cognitive skills, from pattern recognition to problem-solving, helping seniors stay mentally active and alert. Ultimately, memory games are a fun and effective way to support brain health while fostering social connections. Jigsaw puzzles engage visual-spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills. Start with 500-piece puzzles featuring large, colorful images. The satisfaction of completing each section provides a sense of accomplishment while exercising memory and concentration. Trivia questions tap into long-term memory while encouraging recall of historical events, popular culture, and personal experiences. Focus on topics from participants' younger years, such as music from the 1950s and 60s or historical events they lived through. Number puzzles like Sudoku enhance logical thinking and concentration. Begin with easier versions that use larger numbers and simpler grids. The structured nature of Sudoku provides clear goals and measurable progress. Early Warning Signs of Alzheimer's in Seniors Alzheimer’s disease often begins with changes that are easy to miss—things like forgetting a name, misplacing keys, or repeating a question. Over time, these small shifts can point to something deeper going on. Knowing what to watch for makes it easier to support someone early. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain condition that affects memory, problem-solving, and behavior. It’s the most common form of dementia and typically develops around a person’s mid-60s. At first, symptoms may look like normal aging, but they gradually get more serious. Early signs often show up in memory lapses or changes in daily routines. Loved ones might repeat themselves, forget appointments, or misplace items more often than usual. These patterns can grow over time and start interfering with everyday life. Other signs include confusion about time or place, difficulty planning, or struggling with communication. A person might get turned around in familiar areas, pause more during conversations, or have trouble following steps they used to know well. Changes in mood, personality, or judgment also become more noticeable. You might also notice problems with spatial awareness or vision, like bumping into furniture or misjudging distances. If you're noticing signs like these in someone you care about, it's worth learning more about what they mean. To learn more, read our full blog on the topic!

The 7 Stages of Alzheimer's Recognizing the signs of Alzheimer’s can be emotional and overwhelming, but understanding what to expect can make a meaningful difference. Alzheimer’s disease progresses gradually, typically across 7 stages, each with its own challenges and care needs. Stage 1 shows no impairment, while Stage 2 involves very mild memory lapses. Stage 3 brings mild cognitive decline with noticeable memory and concentration issues. In Stage 4, moderate decline begins to affect daily activities. Stage 5 marks the advanced decline stage, where help with routine tasks is needed. Stage 6 involves severe decline, with significant memory loss and difficulty recognizing loved ones. By Stage 7, very severe decline sets in, and individuals lose the ability to communicate and need full-time care. Whether you’re just starting to notice changes or navigating later stages, thoughtful planning and compassionate care can bring peace of mind. Simple daily routines, open communication, and a safe, structured environment can help your loved one maintain comfort and dignity throughout their journey. If you’re wondering what kind of care your loved one might need—or when the right time is to explore memory care—a deeper understanding of these stages is a helpful first step. At Boden Maplewood, our memory care team is here to support your family with personalized care in a warm and welcoming environment.
