I moved into Ida Culver house Broadview a year ago. It has been a wonderful experience. The staff seeks to please, and the residents are friendly and interesting. Our apartment is very comfortable, well laid out, and well maintained (with a lovely view). The food is superb, and the activities are aimed at a variety of interests.

I have lived here for almost three years now and remain very positive about it. Why you ask? It has to do with the Staff and the other Residents who live here. The Staff are Great! they always greet you "by Name" when they see you. Ask if you need help with anything. And follow up with what's needed. I have made many new friends and feel comfortable to sit down with other folks when my friends are not available..

When my mother was ready to move from Florida to Seattle, I did an extensive search for a senior community in the Seattle area. After visiting more than 20 places, it was clear that Ida Culver House Broadview was the best one. My mother has now lived at ICHB for two and a half years, and she really loves it. Ida Culver is an excellent senior community in so many ways. Let me highlight just four of them. 1. Caring and responsive (and award-winning) staff: Every staff person my mother and I have met has been incredibly helpful. They have a genuine passion for what they do and it shows every day. 2. A true community: The residents were very welcoming to my mother. There were orientation sessions with other newcomers and resident volunteers made themselves available to answer questions and introduce my mother to other residents. Despite the broad range of interests and backgrounds, the residents share a genuine friendliness that is obvious if you spend any time there. 3. A lot of activities: There are music performances, game gatherings, book and movie discussions, lectures, monthly birthday parties, outdoor barbecues, cocktail parties, art fairs, exercise sessions, specialty groups, and even an in-house TV channel available to all residents. And these are just the on-premise events. There are also outings all over the greater Seattle area for shopping, nature walks, cultural events, political rallies, and anything else that is of interest to ICBH residents. You don't have to participate in anything, but there is always something interesting going on. 4. Communication: I love getting the weekly menus, the weekly activity calendars, and the bi-weekly newsletters in my email. My mother gets printed copies in her Ida Culver mail slot. Monthly Resident Council meeting minutes are available in the Bistro. There is also an oversize monthly calendar of activities. The activity roster for each day is posted in all elevators, along with the next day’s activity roster. There are also special event posters in the elevators. All big events get a flyer in resident mail slots, well in advance of the event. Other announcements about happenings around the Ida Culver campus are distributed in both email and mail slots. I haven’t mentioned the food (delicious), the facilities (excellent), or the grounds (beautiful). There is a lot to love at Ida Culver and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

One summer’s afternoon, at a forest edge, one was running through the grass straight towards me! I let it crawl into my hand; it’s fresh sunset colors and rich black pattern mesmerized me, as well as the bright blue of the sky, and intensely green grass. This moth and these colors burned into my memory, so I vowed to paint its likeness for the surprise and joy it unknowingly shared with me on that day."
