Kanawha Place helped us during a seriously stressful time (over a holiday weekend) and we have been very happy with the entire facility since. We had actually visited several times but my husband was unable to commit to moving his aunt. A short time after our last visit we had a traumatic event occur which made the decision for us. Timing was unfortunate but the facility understood the reason and urgency for the move. I do not know how they accomplished everything, though I will be forever grateful, but between Saturday to Monday they were ready for her. They did the heavy lifting getting a bed into the room and they were ready for us to move her things in by 9:00 AM Monday morning. We brought a large portion of her things and were able to take time adding things so she would see familiar items where ever she looked. I pray that the reason for our need doesn’t occur often but they were an answer to our prayer that weekend. We have not had concerns about her safety since. She is checked on often, staff members peep in her room when they walk by just to be sure she is ok, and she is eating 3 times a day with no complaints! She is able to see the sun from her room and blooming flowers, both things she loves. She has gone to several activities in the common room and stayed awake and attentive through the entire event. We have always felt a warm and inviting atmosphere during our frequent visits. All staff might not know who we are connected to in the facility, that is improving as we visit. However, they recognize our faces and know we belong to the community. The community is clean and there are several places where multiple members of the family could visit her. That was important to our choice as well.

I moved my mom from another local facility and it is night and day. Here she is well cared for and well adjusted to her community. Another big difference is that the staff is friendly, accessible and helpful with any concerns. It has been a great relief to have my loved one here.
