Macdonald Residence

I picked up a shift here through the caregiving agency I worked with. While I typically work one-on-one with in-home clients, I decided to try helping at this facility. It was a deeply unsettling experience. All of the rumors you hear about facilities, they are real. I will never again work with this facility, they need to be shut down. This is only speaking from my one experience… When I arrived, I was handed an iPod and a radio, with no explanation. I was sent straight to a floor with no orientation, and no idea what my duties were supposed to be. Some of the staff were friendly, while some hated the caregivers from my company, and they were not afraid to show it or voice it. Staff warned me about one particular resident and told me not to speak to her, or touch any of her belongings. I didn’t ask questions at first, but I was told later she had been missing inside the building for two days. When she was finally found (her bedroom), she had smeared feces all over the walls of her room, and had eaten some of it. It seemed like they hadn’t really bothered looking for her. When she walked past me, her odor was enough to knock out half a block. Her hair was matted, and her white sandals were stained brown. It was clear that she had been severely neglected. This facility left me extremely concerned about the care and safety of its residents.

•Nursing staff is negligent leading as far as patient death as well as backlash to direct care when any concerns are voiced • Agency staff riddled throughout the building due to inability to maintain in-house staffing (as well as not feeding agency staff despite scheduled 16hr shifts) •Multiple instances of departments not handling issues within their scope (such as sexual assault from resident to resident) •Favoritism- individuals on high acuity floors for extended periods of time with no break
