Maple Ridge Senior Living

We recently relocated my father from Southern California to independent living at Maple Ridge, and we couldn't be happier with the decision. He absolutely loves his apartment; it's the perfect size, with large windows that offer a beautiful view. The staff and community were incredibly welcoming and helpful from day one. It truly feels like home, and that peace of mind means so much to our family. The team at Maple Ridge really makes the community special. Ashland itself is such a charming town — a perfect place to relocate to. There are plenty of great shops and restaurants nearby, which makes it easy (and fun!) to pick up my dad and treat him to lunch out. He also loves the location and being so close to downtown. There are lots of activities and outings for him to enjoy, and he especially looks forward to the live piano performances. Having three freshly prepared meals a day is another big perk. We’re so grateful to have found such a warm, caring place for our dad, Maple Ridge has truly become home.

Our mom moved into Maple Ridge in 2019. She loves the staff, who make her feel like family. They truly care about the residents and work hard to create an active environment that keeps them engaged in the Ashland community, including trips to concerts, local parades, and more. In addition, they provide regular opportunities for social events and exercise activities. Most importantly, they’ve created a safe and supportive space where she continues to thrive—happily and independently. We’re so grateful to the team for making Maple Ridge a place where our mom feels supported, connected, and at home.

My mom lived in independent living there for 6 yrs. She went into hospice at age 104, a few weeks ago. She only quit driving about 5 years ago, and we shopped at BiMart a month ago, so she was very much up and around. You have to understand that my mother liked everyone always, she had more friends and more of an interest in people than anyone I know. She enjoyed the other residents very much and made many good friends there. However, the head staff, Emily, would not even speak or say hello to Mom after she complained about something, maybe the food. It was noticeably rude. Kitchen staff were lovely, always friendly and helpful. The food however was not good. There was a lot of turnover in the kitchen. Wait times sitting in the dining room waiting to get food, an hour and a half. There was loud music in the dining room so no conversation was possible. My family lived in Ashland and brought Mom food daily so she didn't always have to go downstairs and sit in a hard chair. She still paid for all meals of course. Room cleaning-- there was fast turnover with cleaning staff, too. They were supposed to clean her two bedroom apt weekly. They stayed less than 15 minutes each time. They vacuumed quickly and left. That's all they did. The one person who came and did a thorough job once was gone in a week. The bus outings were fun and the bus drivers were congenial. Mom played cards with other residents and attended meetings when they were held. Prices, there were price increases about twice per year. She was told there would be a 24hr nurse there for her before she signed the papers. They didn't tell her that actually that nurse was not for her, only for higher levels of care, which would cost more. The elevators went off occasionally, once trapping two residents inside for a half hour. A resident with a progressive disease was told to leave, evicted, because "they couldn't care for them." Perhaps lawyers sorted that out. A resident fell and lay there all day before help came. They died in the hospital. In all, my mother didn't hate the place, she stayed there because of the friends she'd made. But if family had not been nearby and very involved in her daily life, I don't think it would have been a good place for her even if she had moved to the higher level of care floors. If you didn't know about them, you should have. They are not new issues. Just fix them.
