My 93 year old Mom had a wonderful experience with Methodist. The staff were caring, professional, and truly dedicated to helping her recover in 5 weeks from a broken hip. The therapists were patient and encouraging, and the nurses always went above and beyond. The facility was clean and welcoming, and communication with our family was excellent. We’re so grateful for the progress mom made and would highly recommend Methodist to anyone in need of rehab care.

Each year, 3 million older adults are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries (CDC). Falls Prevention Awareness Week is a national health campaign to increase awareness around falls and injury prevention. Many falls can be prevented by following these tips from our rehab department: Home Safety • Remove tripping hazards, like loose rugs and clutter on the stairs. • Add handrails to stairs and grab bars in the bathroom. • Use non-slip mats in your tub/shower stall. • Make sure your home is well-lit, add lighting to dark areas. • Place emergency phone numbers in large print next to each phone. • Keep frequently used items accessible to avoid using a stepstool or bending over. • Utilize adaptive equipment like a reacher to retrieve items on the floor or in cabinets. Exercise • Participate in activities and walking as tolerated. • Follow a home exercise program provided by your therapist or doctor. Other • Wear supportive shoes with non-slip soles during all daily activities. • Review medications with your doctor and have your vision checked regularly. If you need help regaining your strength to prevent falls, we offer both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services here at the Methodist Home.
