As a resident of Morning Star and past resident of two prior long term assisted care facilities, I love it here!. The care givers are wonderful and the food is delicious! My fellow residents are dears and very enjoyable! I could go on but I think you get a resident’s perspective on what I have written! Many Blessings, Mary Moore❤️

Moving my mother into MorningStar at The Canyons has been a complete joy and relief. The facility is beautiful, clean, spacious and new. Most importantly the caregivers and staff are exceptional. Everyone working there has been compassionate, kind and communicative. My mother is treated well and her time is filled with engaging activities. I visited nine different facilities in Las Vegas before deciding to move her from another assisted living place into Memory Care at MorningStar. I am grateful to report that we made the right decision. MorningStar is the gold standard. Not only is the staff well trained and kind, but the place is like the Ritz Carlton of senior living. Mom has expressed her appreciation and happiness to be there. I live outside of the country, so knowing that my mother is safe, comfortable and surrounded by care is a great solace. I most highly recommend MorningStar for beloved elders.

Navigating Social Security Benefits Social Security is a foundation of retirement planning, giving millions of Americans a steady income later in life. But knowing when and how to claim can feel overwhelming. Your benefits depend on things like work history, timing, and even taxes, so a little planning goes a long way. You can start collecting as early as 62, but your monthly checks will be smaller. Waiting until your full retirement age (66–67 for most) means you’ll get your full benefit, and holding off until 70 can boost it by about 8% a year. If you’re still working before full retirement age, your payments could be reduced if you earn too much, but that changes once you hit FRA. Taxes may also come into play; up to 85% of your benefits can be taxed depending on your overall income, though many states don’t tax them at all. On top of that, spousal and survivor benefits provide important financial support. Spouses may receive up to half of their partner’s benefit, and widows or widowers can collect based on their late spouse’s record. A few smart moves can make a big difference: check your earnings record, delay claiming if you can, coordinate benefits with your spouse, and keep taxes in mind. Talking with a financial advisor can help tailor the best strategy for your situation. Social Security isn’t one-size-fits-all, but by understanding your options, you’ll be better prepared to create a retirement plan that gives you peace of mind.

The Importance of Protein as You Age As we grow older, maintaining a balanced diet is essential, and protein plays a vital role in supporting strength, energy, and overall health. While often linked to athletes, protein is just as important for seniors, helping to preserve muscle mass, boost immunity, and speed recovery from illness or injury. With age, natural muscle loss (sarcopenia) can reduce mobility, increase fall risk, and affect independence. Adequate protein slows this decline, supporting an active lifestyle. It’s also key for tissue repair, healthy bones, hormone production, and immune defenses. Experts suggest most older adults need 1.0–1.2g of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, about 68–82g for someone weighing 150 lbs, spread evenly across meals. Easy protein sources include eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, fish, lean meats, tofu, beans, lentils, quinoa, and protein smoothies. For smaller appetites, snacks and supplements can help meet needs. Before making changes, consult a doctor or dietitian to determine the right amount for you. Getting enough protein isn’t just about strength; it’s about staying vibrant, independent, and healthy at every age.

Whether you're living independently or enjoying the support of a senior living community, having easy, healthy snack ideas on hand can make your day more enjoyable—and delicious. 1. Peanut Butter & Banana Bites Slice a banana into rounds and spread a bit of peanut butter on each one. Add a sprinkle of granola or a few mini chocolate chips for added texture and flavor.
