When my father-in-law was placed here, we were naturally concerned about his care. While the food wasn’t the best, the kindness and dedication of the staff more than made up for it. The kitchen staff treated him like family, going out of their way to make him feel special—even baking him a cake for his birthday. During the holiday season, they shared gifts, spreading warmth and joy to the residents. It meant the world to us knowing he was in a place filled with love and compassion. In a time when genuine care can feel rare, it was heartwarming to see that it still exists here.

I am just speaking from my own personal experience here at oak pointe senior care of the treated my mother very well from the time she came in until her last days the staff was very commutative and open the care is very organized the directors are very involved they love on each and every person inside of this facility as if they were their own family and that's what you would want bringing your loved one to a senior home. Worst place you can ever put your love one, let me share a little story for anyone who is even thinking about putting their love one here. My uncle Sammie smith was a resident at this facility and about two months ago the head nurse Mrs. Sims contacted my family and says to his nephew who was the person over his medical decisions we think your uncle had a stroke his eyes rolled in his head but we did not catch it in time the Dr. Evaluated him because he was on site no would you like us to send him out nothing, that Saturday I go visit, now I am a nurse in long-term care as well so I know what is expected of me as a nurse when I am on duty, and what is expected of a facility by the state when it comes to caring for a resident and delay in care of a resident, so I go in and my uncle is not at his baseline in my opinion so I ask the nurse on duty how had been that day she stated he was up and alert I explained to her when I’m talking to him he is looking in the opposite direction as if his vision is impaired and in my opinion he is not acting his baseline we would like him sent to providence hospital for possible stroke evaluation, the nurse tells us if he is going to providence they would have to call a ambulance service and that he would be sent out. Well Sunday came and he still had not been sent out we contacted Mrs. Sims the director of nursing to inquire why he was still at the facility after we requested for him to be sent out she stated he would be sent out asap, he finally arrived at the hospital that Monday at 7 am only for the Dr. to confirm that he had suffered a stroke around four days prior, and possibly more, by this time my uncles vision was completely gone he had no hand to mouth coordination, and he had to get a feeding tube not to mention the Dr. On staff at the nursing home sent my uncle to Henry ford hospital weeks prior to this hospital stay due to irregular labs yet they didn’t discover or address the heart issue he had that required a pace maker or some type of interventions to monitor and treat the issue, so now he is at providence and they are uncovering all these issues the Dr. On staff at the nursing home missed so now he had a feeding tube and needed a pacemaker due to the delay in treatment the pacemaker was unsuccessful my uncle was on a steady decline and we just buried him today. When I contacted Mrs sims about the situation and why he was never sent out her answer was first she had to argue with the dr because my uncle made her look like a fool for worrying because he was drinking water, holding a cup and talking to the dr. My answer to her was as a healthcare professional we know that if a person is suspected of having a stroke we are to send them out for treatment and or evaluation also it’s a known fact the faster you treat a stroke the better chance for a full recovery, yet Mrs sims and the dr decided to play guessing games with my love one they did not send him out for a cat scan a MRI nothing. My model as a nurse when in doubt I send you out I rather be extra cautious then taking a chance with someone’s love one, people put their love ones in facilities because they are not healthcare professional and may not know things to look for or what to do when a issue comes up, so you try to find a facility that is patient centered and has your love ones best interest in mind, so when I’m trusting you as a RN the director of nursing to staff your facility with Dr’s and nurses that know what they are doing and how to proceed with things that occur such as a stroke and you are not doing that then that’s not a place someone should be comfortable leaving their loved at and patient centered care is not the case with this facility or this director of nursing and after she dropped the ball she wanted to rush the family to put my uncle on hospice talking about she wanted to make sure he was comfortable yet let him lay there for days after she suspected he had a stroke.. Do not go here!!!
