Oasis at 56Th

Since the new administrator Brittany has been here I see a lot of changes and the place is getting better. This is our home so we appreciate it.

Bedbugs are a constant problem

I don't quite understand the negative reviews of the Oasis at 56th. My mother has been a resident here for almost two years. When I lived in Indianapolis, I visited my mother weekly. She was always happy and has made a lot of new friends. And she still is that way! For many years, when my mother was living on her own, she was stubborn, belligerent, and sometimes even offensive. She was this way when she first arrived at the Oasis. The Oasis staff was extremely patient with her, and did not waiver on the care they gave her. It was the staff at the Oasis that encouraged my mother to have a review of her meds to see if adjustments were needed. She agreed. This was something my brother and I had tried to do for years, but were unable to achieve (probably because she is the mother and we're the kids)! My mother is a new person now. And this is solely because of the entire staff at the Oasis. They accomplished what my brother and I could not. They have given us our mother back. I am not exaggerating on this. Regarding the leadership of the Oasis; I do not think previous reviews are very accurate. Both my brother and I have always, ALWAYS been able to speak directly with the executive director, the head of nursing, and all of the rest of the executive staff. Again, I am NOT exaggerating. Whenever we've had questions, they are always ready to answer. They have gone out of their way to care for my mother, most recently delivering some personal items to my mother when she was recovering from hip surgery. They didn't have to do that. They did it because they care. Regarding the direct care staff; I cannot say enough GOOD things about them. First off, let's be real. These people are caring for hundreds of residents. It's an exhausting job, sometimes thankless, and extremely demanding. Anyone involved in direct care or in the teaching field should be paid more than professional athletes (but that's another topic). Even though they're underpaid and tired, they get the job done and do it as best they can. I've spent days with my mom for several hours. The staff is always on time with her meds. They check in on her even when they don't have to. They get her laundry done and get it returned. They stop and talk to her in the halls. She loves the food and loves the kitchen crew. I have witnessed ALL of this. My mother is not just a name in an apartment. She is part of them. I think I've highlighted everything that needs to be said. Besides, I've written a small novel now. Thanks Oasis for your leadership, your patience, your care, and your love. It does NOT go unnoticed.
