My 88-year-old aunt stayed at St. John’s as rehab after having hip fracture surgery at Froedert. They discharged her after 10 days even though she was authorized for 20. They said she met all the criteria, which was very subjective and not true from anyone taking a brief look at her. She even fell there one night while attempting to go to the bathroom alone. But what is most egregious is St. John’s decided on Saturday that she should be discharged on Monday morning. My family scrambled to talk to anyone on her care team to get paperwork, assessments, and just information on a time. There was absolutely no one available. No one returned voicemails and no one told us how to even arrange for a wheelchair. I called on Monday morning to ask if their medical transport was available to take her over to her home near Brady Street and the woman told me no, and to try Uber. Then she hung up. Then they screened their calls. When I did arrange my own medical transport no one even said the words “Good Bye” to her as we pushed her out. Trying to get her meds and discharge papers was very difficult as no one would pick up the phone or call back. This place is a black hole. We are just a regular, very nice, patient Milwaukee family. This place is really rude, and frankly dangerous. Maybe if you’re a millionaire, you’re covered, but if you are just navigating the care they SAY they provide, GOOD LUCK
