Smith Village

I recently went to Smith village in search of a rehabilitation facility to work with my mom. After her discharge from the hospital. I called to set up an appointment which I did receive. The tour I received was one in which the employee was trying to set up a scenario that basically stated that my mother probably would not be able to get a bed because they were so busy. This tour guide was more than slightly condescending. I was told that they were full and that for short-term stay it's hard to get in because they take the people when their village as a priority. I fully understand that but I also know that there is a high turnover rate in short-term stay. To state with almost full certainty that there would not be a bed available when she was discharged Left me with the feeling that if there were an opening that my mother would not be considered for it. This alone was not the reason for my feelings. When I stated that I still was going to ask the hospital for a referral to their village in the event that there was an opening at the time of her discharge, I was then told that the organization does not take Medicaid. At no time. Did I say what type of insurance my mother had? I only stated that she had insurance and would be covered. I then gave only enough information so that I could find out what the next response would be; I stated that my mother had Medicare and that it was a good policy. The comment again was not one that you would expect from a marketing person. It was another tactic to say she probably won't get in without having any adequate reason for saying so. The next comment did not disappoint since I figured she would look for another way to discourage me from having the referral put in. I was then told that the organization did not take all Medicare plans because there were plans that did not pay for the services that they provided for their residents / patiants. I proceed you to take out my mother's Medicare card. Upon looking at the type of policy she had, the comment was oh oh, this is an FE Medicare plan. She continued down this track and moved forward to say that Medicare may not cover the whole stay and if my mother required a longer term of care than it would have to be out of pocket and the daily rate was somewhat expensive and then she quoted me the daily rate of $200 and something dollars per day. At this point I pulled out another car and showed her my mother's supplemental insurance so happened to cover her say in a rehabilitation facility in excess of what would be paid by the Medicare plan. She reiterated how hard it was to get in because they had to service their their assisted living clientele as a priority. At this point I was tired of playing cat and mouse. My mother was obviously not going to be welcomed at this facility. Reading the other views I left this place feeling like Yvette Sledge and I as well was highly offended and I still am. Wow I just stopped by to read the comments and bingo!!! I knew I would see a bad review on the count of one of their miserable rude nurses lashuny. I had an experience of my own but she really need to leave her issues at home or find work from home.

Our mother spent several years here, starting in independent living and then in the memory care unit. Smith Village is wonderful, great staff led by excellent executive director. Very good food. When she died, staff came to her wake. Also treated my mom's cat quite well.
