Grandma has bruises they refuse to explain. Violent patients left to roam halls and “punch people”. As per staff’s warning. Her stuff is always missing. I suspect the staff contributes to missing items. Rooms are worse than jail cells. Only allowed to shower once a week with cold water. My grandma isn't a prisoner in prison. Shes a person with a disability. 😡

I toured this facility for my dad recently despite the comments, thinking surely the comments were excessive and exaggerated. THEY WERE NOT. I SEEN a Cna use force and forceful words on an elderly seemingly mentally impaired woman who was a resident. Then dragged back to the “dining room” which doubled as the activity room. I told the receptionist and was basically blown off, that gives me the impression that this probably happens more often than not. I also happened to witness what they call “Activities” they don’t seem inclusive to call residents cognition levels. I left in the middle of my tour extremely upset and rethinking the whole nursing home industry awful place to send your loved one.

I recommend not putting your loved one in south valley care center, although the price is good compared to other places and they may have availability. the the staff is nice to the family but not all that nice to the residents especially when no one from outside the facility is there I’ve witnessed it first hand. when mental abuse of residents is reported to the higher ups it’s followed with ignorance as if it’s never happened or if you’re lucky maybe the cna will get a “stern” talking to being if they’re still there because cnas themselves don’t stay long due to the poor working environment, then again it’s probably best that they don’t stay because they’re not properly trained and have been reasonable for the death of a resident which occurred last year due to cna error. south valley is now facing a lawsuit against them for that matter which they’re currently fighting. (according to public information anyways) A lot of shady things happen that I’ve noticed such as not giving residents their mail/sending out mail that they want to send out or not giving them choices on where they want to be in the facility . Monitoring phone calls, and opening mail . They’ll tell you these are normal things because they are people with dementia, They still have rights. Which are being violated everyday! You may think, “why not report them to the state?” Or “why haven’t more people talked about it?” Because they do a very good job of hiding it when state is there or family. I’ve heard residents be verbally threatened with sedation when they act out, being told “I’m gonna give you a shot if you don’t knock it off” instead of seeing what need has to be met being that it may be a behavioral expression, which is what they would consider as something that needs more medication instead of evaluating the issue first they’ll sedate and send out of central desert ( a mental institution ) to be held there for revaluation it seems to be almost like a punishment especially being that this typically happens to the more cognitively aware residents who will speak out against the treatments within the facility. They then are sent back very sedated to the point where they can’t even speak or hold their heads up. It’s very troubling coming from a facility who consistently preaches that they do not use chemical restraints, at least other places are honest about it. They have super dirty cups and all frozen pre cooked, bland foods (unseasoned food) which the residents constantly complain about I've seen the people in the kitchen do something’s that I know cannot be up to standard such as touching the food with bare hands and leaving things out of the refrigerator then reheating and reserving those same foods. it seems as It's the staffs way or no way especially when it comes to some of the nurses which are very rude when you disagree with a point they’ve made. The administrator genuinely seems to care for the residents but doesn’t have the budget/or know how to make things better for them (or at least that’s what I would hope and hope it’s not just her not caring.) If you’re only interested in them for the price, remember this is where your loved one will probably live until they die. Do not let them be stuck in that miserable little place, who does the absolute bare minimum to keep them alive. talk to one of the more aware residents while you’re on a tour Ask how they feel about living there, they’ll immediately tell you they feel like it’s a prison and they’d rather be anywhere else or even dead.
