St Augustine Manor

I want to apologize in advance for the awesome and great staff at St. Augustine. The team that assisted my mom when she was admitted there almost killed her. 😡 My mother was admitted to St. Augustine, on March 24, 2021, for rehabilitation. She was discharged from St. Vincent, suffering from infections in both her kidneys, a blood infection, and an infection in her leg. By the grace of God, my mother began to recover. After settling in at Saint Augustine, she asked for some Ensure. They stated that they only have Boost. She waited but never received anything. She asked for some ice chips. She never received that either...She began to feel pain from her illnesses coming on and asked for her medications. They would not comply. Her arm and hand began to tighten and swell severely due to her Arthritis. The nurses or team were neglectful, rude, and not attentive to my mother’s needs. She received disgraceful care at this facility. She was forced to wait a very long time in pain and without any help. Her pain became unbearable and she began to beg to leave. She asked to get out! They wouldn’t respond. She made an emotional plea to leave. They wouldn’t let her go and disconnected her phone. They told her that the ambulance wouldn’t or couldn’t take her back to St. Vincent. Only to Metro. She wanted to go to emergency, but they took their time about that too. Why are these poor patients suffering evermore when they are simply trying to heal from illnesses that they’re already suffering from?! Why on earth are they mistreating my mother? 😔 When she was discharged from St. Vincent to begin rehabilitation at St. Augustine, she didn’t arrive with a nose bleed and her hand severely swollen. They left her with blood running from her nose; and not a mild nose bleed, she was bleeding severely! She chose St. Augustine because she heard some nice things about their facility and was skeptical of other nursing homes. She didn’t want to go to any other nursing home. In my mother’s own words, “I picked the wrong one.” 😞 What ultimately saved my mother was that she remembered that she had her cell phone and was finally able to reach out to family. My aunt made several phone calls to St. Augustine but got the run around. On her last attempt to get some answers regarding my mother’s well being, she said don’t you transfer me again! Do I need to come up there with the police?! Shortly thereafter, my mother said that they started coming in her room like soldiers! They began to offer her Ensure and was tending to her every need! By this time, my mother needed emergency assistance! She was worse than she was when she first arrived. 😢 Thank God for my auntie! She alerted the necessary officials regarding the bad treatment my mother was receiving at St. Augustine! My mother was finally released but not without her health being compromised… On March 27th, my poor mother ended up back in ICU and The Cardiac Surgical Unit. The staff at St. Augustine did not take proper care of my mother. Neglect and abuse is what she received. They caused her a nosebleed that would not stop, wouldn’t administer medication to her and then when they did, they decreased it, neglected her call for help; which all in the end, caused her to spiral backwards and end up going back to the hospital and now CSU...In ICU, both nostrils were plugged to maintain the bleeding, which was uncomfortable and extremely painful. The pain was excruciating! She said that pain felt worst of all compared to the blood disease, infections in both kidneys and in her leg combined. The plugging/packing in her nostrils is shockingly the most dreadful pain she’d ever experienced. 🙏🏽😔 According to News Channel 5, during that time in the United States, there were 15,000 abuse cases reported in nursing homes. Don’t leave your families in the care of these facilities without showing up and showing up unscheduled, and often. The abuse is real. My heart was so broken for my mother. Love you, ma💔😞

The staff were amazing, including the P.T. staff, who were diligent in working with me to continue to heal and get better so I could discharge to home. Everyone was so caring, and the facility was nice and clean. The only bad thing was the food. Still, I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. They truly are the best.

Pros: Sara the RT Manager KNOWS HER STUFF. She is also very compassionate and dedicated to the patients wishes. The PT staff are also fantastic but it is clear they don't get the hours/staffing they need to give patients the level of therapy they need. They get rid of staff that does not meet their standards. Cons: As with most places, they seem tp struggle with staffing. Rooms were not filthy but the cleaning was lacking. Some aides were rough and/or rude. When my parent was sent to the hospital, no advocate was sent with him when he was disoriented and unable to speak for himself.
