Sunrise Of Wilmington

When mom moved in three years ago everything was great. She met friends, and even created new fun activities such as Show and Tell, and a poetry club for residents. However when mom's health started to decline (she had Parkinson's) everything changed. I would arrive unannounced to find her sitting in the dark with her call button missing often. Things got really bad about a year ago when some leadership changes at the Wilmington site occurred. No communication, and it was hard to find anyone to speak with during visits. Mom passed away Aug 2 while I was on vacation and no one from Sunrise reached out to me, or my sister to express their condolences, or to help us understand next steps. This survey (over a month later) is the first communication I have received. I wish I could give a better rating but for a private pay facility the care and communication was greatly lacking.

Apparently, they cycle through administrators frequently. Can't seem to retain talent. Says something about their corp mgt and/or HR.

On the positive side, the rooms were very clean, a beautiful view. The facility was very attractive and a concert was given one Saturday. The schedule, food and activities were all well planned (though my mother could not take advantage of those services due to her health. The staff was very caring, though often were hard to find and there was always a poor response to call buttons. Issues of great concern are 1. one issue of neglect (the call button was on my mother's back when she was tangled up with the oxygen tubes) 2.poorly trained staff and inattentive staff 3. an outright lie for financial gain (the move-in fee $4,590(was described aspre-paid months rent but in the contract was nonrefundable. 4 billing issues (duplicate charging for services provided by other medicare vendors. 5 added costs to me due to poor service (not signing a simple form costing me aroudn $2000 6 no response to letters or returning calls by director.
