The Oaks At Lakewood

UPDATE! Sorry for the long post but everything needs to be pointed out. I gave a review too early! I should have heeded the previous complaints! THIS PLACE SUCKS! My dad was admitted for over 30+ days. Here is the list of problems we encountered: 1. Told to bring clothes & items from home to make his stay comfortable. I initially brought 2 sweatpants, 4 shirts, etc. Within the 1st week they lost 1 sweatpants & 2 shirts. When I complained they said they would contact the laundry staff. Keep in mind when he was admitted I specifically stated not to wash his stuff & I would pick up since I live just 3 minutes away. They NEVER followed my request & always took his dirty clothes, even with a BIG SIGN on his door. This was to be the first of many incidents where his clothes were lost (even after labeling). Sometimes they got returned but not always. One night I visited dad who was sitting in a chair with only a shirt, socks, & "adult diaper" on. When I asked, he said he had a accident because the nurses didn't come help him to the bathroom. The nurses took his clothes but left him sitting with no pants, just a thin blanket over his legs. After 4+ separate complaints to the nurses, office admins, & front desk about lost items, I was given the same BS excuses & false promises that they would "look into it & if they can't find the stuff then they will reimburse us" That was a LIE! By the time dad left, they lost 3 pants (one I had just bought 2 days before they took it) & 2 snap button shirts, which were custom ordered. We haven't seen one penny to reimburse us or even a reply to messages left after discharge. It's been 4+ months now & not one peep from these people so I gave up. 2. Dad is legally blind & needs magnifying glasses to watch TV. Within the 1st week, they got damaged. The left lens fell out & someone THREW IT AWAY instead of leaving it with the glasses for repair. What the heck? Those glasses cost $200+ 3. My dad was there for 35 days & in all that time he only received ONE SHOWER! Yes, you read that right - ONE SHOWER in over a month. They said he would get a shower once a week plus "sponge baths" every other day. THAT NEVER HAPPENED! He is incontinent so I brought a big pack of Depends pull on briefs. They rarely used it & would put "adult diapers" with the sticky side tabs on instead. Dad is NOT bed bound & can stand with assistance. Many times he called for help to get up & walk to the bathroom but was told "Oh, you have a diaper on, so just go ahead & pee in the bed." What?!?! His 1st night at home, I helped change into his PJ's. I was SHOCKED to see his entire groin area bright red, inflamed, & warm to the touch along with broken skin. He was wincing in PAIN. He had a full blown infection all over his privates & on his buttocks. This blind 90 year old Army veteran was left to sit in his own piss and/or feces for hours. I got him into his doctor's the next day for an urgent visit. The doctor couldn't believe what he saw. He said this infection was not new & obviously going on for several days. He couldn't fathom how medical staff didn't catch (or just didn't care) that an elderly man had an obvious skin rash. And with areas of broken skin, bacteria could enter & cause Sepsis, which is deadly for an elderly cancer patient. The doctor was mortified that they only gave ONE SHOWER in 35 days. That isn't sanitary & completely unacceptable for a nursing facility. The only good thing dad had to say was that he really liked the Physical Therapists. They were friendly, helpful, & very patient with him being slow during his PT & exercise sessions. Previous review - Friendly staff & managers. My dad was just admitted today & will start his PT sessions soon. So far we are impressed how helpful everyone has been during this transition to The Oaks.

The Oaks of Lakewood is a well-maintained skilled nursing facility that offers a supportive and professional environment for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. The facility is clean, organized, and thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of residents at various levels of care. What stands out most is the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. From nursing to administration, the team is approachable, compassionate, and genuinely committed to the well-being of residents. Communication with families is clear and consistent, which helps build trust and peace of mind! It has been the best facility I have been to!

They took great care of my father-in law during his stay. The staff where all fantastic.
