The Residence at Fitz Farm

Our introduction and application process with Residence at Fitz Farm was excellent. Our contact, Michelle Anderson, Community Relations Director of Independent Living offered us multiple tours, answered endless questions and guided us through the paperwork when my Mother applied for residency. And she did it all with a caring attitude, grace and professionalism. Her attention to detail and timely communications were very much appreciated. Thank you Michelle.

Very clean and inviting facility

Beware of this beautiful facility if you are looking for Memory Care! We moved our mother into The Residence at Fitz Farm April 2024. In only 6 weeks, two workers were fired for physically and verbally abusing her. The management staff did not take our initial concerns of our mother's bruises (that we found only a few weeks after her move-in) seriously. We had to keep pushing to get them to investigate the cause of her bruises. After the abuse was discovered, they did not keep us informed in any meaningful way. We tried to keep her at Fitz Farm but then the neglect started (no activities, not putting in her hearing aids, kept in pajamas all day). We had to move our mother to another facility, but the emotional damage is already done. She requires constant, direct care that we pay for in addition to facility charges. I contacted Belinda McQuaide, COO of Integracare, who takes no responsibility for the damage done from one of her facilities. She did fire the entire management staff of Fitz Farm but was told that had nothing to do with our mother's abuse. I asked her to help pay for the additional care our mother requires, but she hung up on me. Everyone needs to read the reports that have been filed with the PA Department of Human Services especially since one of Fitz Farm responses says they were not being investigated for abuse. I tried to post the direct link since it is hard to find but Google does not allow that in a review. Please search "PA Department of Human Services". Left side chose "Programs and Services". Last option is "Providers & Licensing". Bottom of that page is Human Services Provider Directory, click the blue link "Visit the Provider Directory". Provider Search comes up: middle column, middle line is "Facility/Legal Entity Name" so type in "Fitz Farm" and click blue "Submit Search" button. Only The Residence at Fitz Farm comes up. Towards the far right is "License Status & License #". Click the blue link "Inspection Summary". That is where the Inspection/Violation Report History is found. The only way I found this was by calling the DHS office with an inspector showing me step by step. Report dated 8/8/204 is our mother's report which combines both known abuse cases in one file under Section 42B Abuse. Report dated 11/13/2024 has not enough workers with First Aid/CPR Training on site, Locking Poisonous Materials in the Dementia Unit, Heat Sources in all Units, Resident Personal Equipment, Procedure Emergency Management Agency Submission, Key-Locking Devices for the Dementia Unit, Medication Record and more I did not list. Report dated 3/4/2025 has Abuse, Resident Right's Violation (a staff member yelling "Bite Me" to a Dementia resident) and Support Plan Violation. Please note this is a year after our mother's abuse, but this is the quality of people they are still hiring to take care of your loved one. Please take the time to find and read these reports. The Residence at Fitz Farm's new management staff has not changed the culture of abuse per the reports that are still being filed against them. Since my sister posted our review a year ago, two families reached out to us concerning suspected abuse in the Dementia unit with one family also moving their mother. It really seems the Independent and Assisted Living Units are much better than the Memory Care Unit.
